DATELINE: Mexico Eight Reale found at Turtle Trail Near Corrigan’s Beach – East Coast of Florida

Mexico Eight Reale found at Turtle Trail Near Corrigan's Beach

During my travels here in Florida following the FUN Show, I came across an interesting item which I purchased for sentimental reasons. This Mexico eight reales was found at Turtle Trail near Corrigan’s Beach, six miles south of Sebastian, Florida on December 26, 2015.

It is a nicely shaped coin which still retains some ocean/beach deposits. Upon close inspection it is dark with a good portion of the obverse shield and most of the cross on reverse. A better high-resolution image will be featured in a later post.

The reason this coin has some sentimental value to me is because it was found on December 26, 2015 and is one of the last eight reales found along the Treasure Coast during the 300th Anniversary year of 2015.

From what I have been told there were a number of half reales and one reales found but not many eight. So, I purchased this coin, which was found by Steve Hancock, in remembrance of the 300th Anniversary of the loss of the 1715 Fleet.

  1. Nice coin Ben , Glad you got it. I hunt that beach myself. I’ve seen 1715 Fleet contractors working this area last few years. I got my pins in the mail on Sat. Thanks
