NEW 1715 Fleet Publication Officially Released
The 1715 Fleet Society has been given the honor of officially announcing the release of a new book written by Sal Guttuso, currently the Director of Operations for 1715 Fleet – Queens Jewels, LLC. Entitled “Gold Coins of the Tricentennial Discovery” this publication focuses on the discovery of over 400 gold coins during the summer of 2015 which marked the 300th anniversary of the loss of the 1715 Fleet, hence the name “Tricentennial Hoard”. Remarkably, the bulk of these coins were recovered on July 30 and July 31, 2015, which was exactly 300 years to the day when the Fleet was lost! The odds of this recovery occurring when it did on the 300th anniversary are astronomical indeed. But it happened.
Sal’s analysis of the Tricentennial Hoard marks the first time that anyone has seriously studied the coins that comprise this find. His book reviews the entire gold coin collection broken down by mint, wreck site, denomination, and date. Also included are photographs of the coins, each identified by corresponding lab tag numbers. In addition, the denomination of each coin along with weight, mint, and whenever possible, assayer is also provided. It is truly an exceptional study and a must-have book for all those interested in the Tricentennial Hoard or who own coins from this collection.
