Tuesday was the official opening of the ANA World’s Fair of Money here in Pittsburgh. In as much as I was a volunteer I was able to get into the show early. I spent most of the day going around the bourse floor reacquainting myself with old friends and dealers. There were a number of 1715 Fleet Society members that I had an opportunity to see. Among those were Dan Sedgwick (Member #2), Augi Garcia (Member #3), Mike Dunigan (Member #50), Don Kagin (Member #95), Tom Uram (Member #23), Ray O’Shinski (Member #104), Richard Jewell (Member #21), and Doug Mudd (Member #90 and from the ANA).
I also spread the word about our upcoming conference in January. There has been a lot of interest in the 1715 Fleet Society Conference and I hope to get a good attendance.
I was up again early on Wednesday and continued to promote the conference and seek sponsors and donors. Also, I managed to sign up some new members. There are a lot of young numismatists interested in the 1715 fleet and in Mexican coinage. I was actually quite surprised at their enthusiasm. One suggestion that I received which is quite good is to have a reduced rate for numismatists under the age of 30. It will be something that we will look into. Tomorrow will be another day and I will file a supplemental report at the end of the day.
