From the Fleet Society Archives — November 2013

Here is the cover of a very interesting booklet that was published in connection with the 1st Annual Art McKee Days. Although not often associated with the 1715 Fleet, Art McKee was actually one of the first to dive on the 1715 Fleet wreck sites in the 1950s. McKee is a legend in the shipwreck community and is often referred to as “The Father of Modern Treasure Diving”. After his brief association with the 1715 Fleet, McKee went on to establish a treasure museum in the Florida Keys and was a mentor and model for many treasure divers who were to follow.

Although Art McKee Days are no more, Art McKee is still recognized as an important figure in and around Key West and the Florida Keys.
