This West Coast Shipwreck May Contain Millions in Gold Bars and Coins

The Brother Jonathan maritime disaster was the West Coast’s Titanic. The sidewheel paddle steamship carried goods, gold, and passengers between San Francisco, Portland, and Vancouver.

In 1865, it sank into the Pacific, taking over 200 souls and a fortune in gold. Divers have recovered some of the wreckage and gold coins, but many believe most of the treasure remains on the ocean floor.
