The American company AE Studio has announced an unusual job opening for expeditions to search for sunken ships. It is looking for an experienced sailor and diver who will work with artificial intelligence technologies to locate shipwreck sites and help recover valuables found on the seabed.
The job posting, titled “pirate,” was published by AE Studio’s Skunkworks division, known for its unconventional projects.
Candidates are expected to have many years of seafaring experience, diver certifications, and a willingness to work “under conditions that insurance companies refuse to cover.” Other responsibilities include obtaining permits, liaising with port authorities, and handling various bureaucratic matters related to maritime expeditions.
The company lists as additional advantages experience in salvaging cargo from ships that sank before 1800, knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch, sailing vessel captain’s licenses, owning a boat, and even “experience working in Somalia, the Strait of Hormuz, or the Strait of Malacca.”
