Daniel Sedwick to Present Lecture on Florida’s Spanish Shipwrecks

In conjunction with Academia Hernando’s Spring Lecture Series, Fleet Society member Daniel Sedwick (member #2) will be presenting a lecture on January 31, 2025. Academia Hernando is a non-profit located in Spring Hill, Florida. The mission of Academia Hernando is to provide quality learning experiences for adult students throughout Hernando County, Florida, and beyond. It was formed as a division of learning in retirement of the University of South Florida.

The Spring Series began on Friday, January 10, 2025. Daniel Sedwick’s topic is “Florida’s Spanish Shipwreck History: A Survey of Treasure Salvaged off Florida’s Coastline”. The lecture will be held at the Welcome Om Center, 4260 Lake in the Woods Drive, Spring Hill, Florida at 10:00 AM.


Academia Hernando’s Upcoming Lecture Explores Florida’s Spanish Shipwreck Treasures

Academia Hernando is inviting adult learners to explore the fascinating history of Spanish shipwrecks off the Florida coastline with its upcoming Spring Lecture Series. The next lecture, titled “Florida’s Spanish Shipwreck History: A Survey of Treasure Salvaged off Florida’s Coastline,” will be held on Friday, January 31, at 10 a.m.

The lecture, presented by numismatic expert Daniel Frank Sedwick, will delve into the remarkable stories of Spanish shipwrecks lost and salvaged off Florida’s shores. The presentation will highlight significant wrecks, including those from the storm-tossed Spanish Treasure Fleets of 1622, 1715 and 1733. These wrecks span from Key West to Melbourne along Florida’s eastern coastline, following the Gulf Stream from the Straits of Florida.
