DATELINE: Vero Beach, Florida

This is a personal post FUN Show update from Ben Costello, 1715 Fleet Society.

This was the third year that the 1715 Fleet Society hosted an informational table at the recent FUN Show in Orlando, Florida (January 9 – 12, 2014).  Like last year, we had many visitors who obtained informational literature about the Fleet Society and also viewed the displays that were presented by the Society.  In addition, this year, we had our new 2015 Commemorative Calendar for sale (which will soon be posted on our Products Link).  Like last year, we rented a monitor which depicted images of recovered treasures such as gold and silver cobs from Mexico and Peru, jewelry and other artifacts.  Again, this proved to be quite popular with our visitors, in addition to being a great educational resource.

On Thursday, January 9th, I was privileged to meet Douglas Mudd from the American Numismatic Association.  Doug is currently the Curator of the Edward C. Rochette Money Museum sponsored by the ANA.  Doug has agreed to assist the Fleet Society in designing the Exhibit of 1715 Fleet material, (coins, artifacts, etc.), which will be displayed at the FUN Show in January 2015.  As previously reported, the FUN Board has made the 300th Anniversary of the 1715 Fleet disaster its theme for the 2015 FUN Show.

On Sunday, January 12th, I addressed the FUN Board and outlined for them what we hope to accomplish at the next FUN Show regarding the 1715 Fleet Exhibit.  FUN President, Tony Swicer, has appointed former FUN President, Bob Hurst, to serve as Chairman of the Committee charged with planning this event.

A postscript to this update, which will include pictures of our table and displays, will be filed in the near future.
