On September 29, a US Magistrate Judge issued an important decision regarding a 17th century shipwreck just up the coast from where the remains of the 1715 Fleet are situated. The French ship “La Trinité” sank in about 30 feet of water over 450 years ago. Discovered in 2016 by Robert Pritchett of Global Marine Exploration (GME), the wreck has been the subject of an ongoing legal ownership dispute between GME and France. The 29-page decision by Judge Magistrate Allen Winsor sitting in Tallahassee awarded the shipwreck to France under the Sunken Military Craft Act.
