Last month we featured two unmarked contraband silver wedge ingots. January’s Treasure of the Month is the corner of a gold bar from the 1715 Fleet. The corner weighs 225 g, almost a full half pound of gold. The dimensions are 4.3 cm long, 1.7 cm high and 3.2 cm wide. As you can see the surfaces are smooth and free of ocean sediments. The image on the left is the top of the bar, and the image on the right is the bottom, stamped XX or XXI, which denotes the purity (here 20 or 21 kt).
