March’s Treasure of the Month proves that not all treasure comes in the form of gold, silver, or jewels. This month’s offering is a “gem” of a find. Upon close inspection it does not appear very treasure-like, but that is where it gets its charm. This 4 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ pottery shard is from one of the many olive jars, the contents of which were likely part of a ship’s manifest. This particular piece was found on the beach near Sebastian, Florida on January 17, 2013. The young lady pictured to the left proudly displays this newly found treasure.
