May 2014 Featured Treasure

Our featured treasure item for May is this 64 lb. bell metal ingot recovered by Rex Stocker of the Real Eight Company at the Cabin Wreck site in 1964. Bell metal is a hard alloy consisting primarily of copper with a smaller percentage of tin and is used for making bells and related instruments. From our research, it appears that most if not all of these large ingots were recovered from the Cabin Wreck. Of those found, the majority reside in the State of Florida Collection.
