Rare Bottles Recovered From Cabin Wreck Site

An interesting article was submitted by Fleet Society Director Jorge Proctor regarding a recent rare find on the 1715 Fleet wreck site known as the Cabin Wreck. Four intact glass Onion Bottles were found by veteran shipwreck salvor Captain Greg Bounds and his crew of the M/V Capitana.

By any measure, finding an intact item made of glass is exceedingly rare. The forces released when wooden ships are crumbled in a hurricane make the probability of such a find astronomical. The recently recovered bottles from the Cabin Wreck illustrate this point. The delicate features of these artifacts are apparent in the photos that accompany the attached article. For more information on bottles (Onion Bottles in particular) see our Treasure of the Month for July 2019.
