Red Sky at Night Sailor’s Delight

There is an old saying, “Red sky at night sailor’s delight. Red sky at morning sailor’s take warning”. Here is a picture of a beautiful Southwest Pennsylvania sunset that everyone, including sailors, would be delighted to see. It does not happen this way very often.  We are far more likely to see gray, overcast skies most of the time. In fact, in Southwest Pennsylvania, we see an average of 59 sunny days a year, and 103 partly sunny days a year which is about 45% sunshine a year. Not ideal. Compare that to Yuma, Arizona which has sun 90% of the time. Of course, we do not have summer temperatures over 110 degrees either.
