While searching through some archival material, I came across this interesting mailer advertising gold nuggets from the S.S. Central America (SSCA). We tend to forget that there were gold nuggets found among the treasures recovered from that unfortunate ship. We are more likely to see SSCA coins offered in various auctions, but not many nuggets. The nuggets that do come up for sale have a tendency to be on the small side. There were some quite large gold nuggets found, but we don’t see those for sale very often. So, if you are a connoisseur of shipwreck material and you have a chance to acquire a large (over an ounce) gold nugget from the SSCA, it might be worth your while to do so, as these items are becoming harder and harder to find.
