May 2011 Treasure of the Month 10th Anniversary Repost

In honor of our website’s 10th Anniversary, we thought it would fitting to republish our very first Treasure of the Month from May 1, 2011. We hope you enjoy it. You can access all of our subsequent treasures by clicking on Treasures of the Month on our Home Page.

Our first-ever featured treasure is this dazzling array of Fleet-recovered gold escudos from the Spanish colonial mints of Mexico City and Lima. Served up on a porcelain dish (also recovered from a Fleet wreck site), these beauties are as fresh and bright as the day they were produced. They are accompanied by a gold chain and cross, along with a gold disc and tiny gold bar. Truly a great display of Fleet-related treasure fit for a king.
