DATELINE: Florida: Professional Archaeological & Anthropological Societies

Whitman Photo Contest Winners Announced

Recently, during my visit to Florida, I was introduced to two professional organizations which I’d like to share with our membership: The Florida Public Archaeological Network (FPAN) and the Florida Anthropological Society (FAS).

The Florida Public Archaeological Network’s mission is to promote and facilitate the conservation, study and public understanding of Florida’s archaeological heritage through regional centers throughout the state, each of which has its own website. There are many volunteer opportunities through FPAN. We encourage you to visit their site to learn more about them.

The Florida Anthropological Society includes 15 chapters around the state that provide opportunities for public engagement in archaeology and anthropology. Membership is open to all interested individuals who are willing to abide by the organization’s statement of ethics. Please visit their website for more information about joining this worthwhile organization.
