DATELINE: Vero Beach, Florida

Call for Papers

On July 28 – 29, 2015, the 1715 Fleet Society will sponsor a symposium at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, Vero Beach, Florida. Whilst July of 2015 will mark the 300th anniversary of the loss of the Fleet, 2015 will also represent the beginning of the 6th decade of modern study of the significance of the Fleet tragedy. One focus of the symposium will be a retrospective on scholarly and archaeological work on the Fleet 1964-2014. Anyone associated with work on the Fleet in this period, especially in the Real 8 era, is encouraged to take to take this opportunity to revisit and document their contributions to Fleet studies. A second focus will be on-going, original archival, historical, and archaeological investigations of the Fleet. The Fleet Society is especially concerned to promote such work. Researchers and scholars are encouraged to present a paper describing their on-going investigations.

Anyone interested in presenting at the symposium should kindly submit a one page proposal to us by December 15, 2014. We hope to finalize the curriculum of the symposium by the end of the year. We will publish it both on the website and in PLUS ULTRA in January 2015.

Ben Costello
Director, 1715 Fleet Society
